On the northern part of Newport, there is a graveyard for old ships.  This well-known and once proud carrier, USS Saratog, CV-60, a Forrestal class supercarrier, is destined for the scrapyard later this year.  After serving the U.S. since the 1950s, she was decommissioned in 1994 and brought to rest here in 1998.
